Under the Taos Sun
We will be forever grateful to our friend, Deonne, for convincing us to hang out with her on the last day of the Taos Solar Music Festival. We've always been in town during Solar Fest but until this year were never inclined to attend. We don't follow the contemporary music scene, so the performers weren't very familiar to us. This year was no different, but with Deonne as our guide, we had a terrific time. The venue, Kit Carson Park, is perfect for this smallish outdoor festival, and we could get close enough to the stage to feel a connection with the musicians. From now on, whenever anyone mentions Allison Moorer, Plena Libre, Steve Earle, or Susan Tedeschi, we'll be able to nod knowingly.
We managed not to consume any alcohol during the concert but made up for that when we returned home. It was Deonne's last evening as a full time resident of Taos--she was leaving for New York the very next morning--so we toasted her last few hours on the mesa with pink champagne. We'll miss her terribly, but we know she'll have a fabulous new life in the Big Apple.
